The AC resonant test system with an oil-insulated reactor is used for tests on higher load capacitances and longer duty cycles. To apply the test voltage GIS has to be equipped with an SF6 to air bushing. The modular design allows two reactors to be connected in series or parallel to enable testing with higher voltages or power requirements.

Testing of withstand voltage at GIS can be performed using the AC voltage test system with variable frequency once installed on-site. The test system operates in a frequency range from 20 Hz to 300 Hz and complies with the requirements according to IEC 60517 and IEC 62271-203.

 

The test frequency depends on involved capacitances, typically these are those of test object, voltage divider and coupling capacitor if included in test system circuit.

 

The high-voltage reactor is fixed inductance, form resonance with capacitive test load by frequency converter power supply, and provide undistorted sinusoidal AC resonance test power. It features a modular design, oil insulation and cylinder insulated shell. Several reactors can be connected in series or parallel to achieve higher test voltages or power, voltage up to 2400kV.

 

Test system and test object form a series resonant circuit that guarantees a pure sinusoidal wave of test voltage. In case of failure, only minimal damage may occur due to the limited amount of energy stored in the test circuit. And because the systems are designed to have high quality factor (Q), low input power is required (1/Q) which results in lower installation and operating costs.
